A message from Fr. John

I am aware of complaints about understanding foreign priests with their strong accent. First of all, why are foreign priests coming to the Diocese of Green Bay? There is a priest shortage in our diocese for, we hope, the short term. We now have 26 seminarians in training. Bishop is hoping for 40 by the year 2012 which would give us about 5 ordinations a year. We could hold our own them. In the meantime we are importing priests from foreign lands.

Why import priest from Africa? It appears this is one area in the world where there is a surplus of priests. Their seminaries are full and they are ordaining more than they need. Bishop Ricken having contact with some bishops in Nigeria asked if it were possible to share some of their priests with us and they consented.
